Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday emphasised that the Maha Kumbh is not just a religious festival but a unique opportunity for Prayagraj to showcase its exceptional hospitality to the world.
The Maha Kumbh 2025 will take place in Prayagraj from 13 January to 26 February. “Every institution is actively engaged to ensure the success of this grand event,” Adityanath said, urging the people of Prayagraj to work together in presenting the city’s rich heritage on a global stage.

Key preparations underway
The Chief Minister announced that land allocations for over 20,000 saints and institutions, including all 13 Akharas, have been completed through a thorough registration process. Remaining and new allocations are expected to be finalised by 5 January, ensuring ample space for all participants.
For the first time, the number of pontoon bridges has increased from 22 to 30, with 20 already completed. The aim is to have all 30 bridges finished by 30 December. Similarly, 330 kilometres of checkered plates have been laid out of the planned 651 kilometres.
Infrastructure enhancements
The event will feature upgraded electricity infrastructure, with 85 substations of 400 KVA, 77 of which are already operational. Additionally, 94 substations of 100 KVA are functional, along with extensive installations of HT and LT lines and nearly 48,000 LED streetlights.
Prayagraj will also see the completion of a newly developed riverfront along the Ganga, alongside modern concrete ghats, including a key ghat in Arail, due for completion by 30 December.

Efforts to ensure clean water include bioremediation techniques and operational sewage treatment plants to prevent pollutants from entering the Ganga. Temporary hospitals, including a 100-bed facility and several 25-bed centres, will offer healthcare services, supported by first-aid booths across the fairgrounds.
“So far, land has been allocated to over 20,000 saints and institutions through a comprehensive registration process. This includes allotments to all 13 Akharas, ‘Dandiwada’, ‘Acharyawada’, ‘Prayagwal Sabha’, ‘Khak Chowk’ and others. Efforts are going on to complete the allocation process for remaining and newly registered institutions by January 5,” CM said.
Newly inaugurated corridors such as the Akshay Vat Corridor and the Bade Hanuman Ji Corridor will enhance the spiritual experience for visitors. Other completed developments include the Saraswati Koop, Patalpuri, and Maharishi Bhardwaj corridors. A replica of the Dwadash Jyotirlinga has also been installed to further elevate Prayagraj’s spiritual appeal.
A Tent City, managed by the Prayagraj Mela Authority, will accommodate 20,000 devotees, with VIP facilities for 5,000–6,000 visitors. For the first time, trained ‘Apda Mitras’ will assist alongside NDRF and SDRF teams to ensure safety and support throughout the event.
Yogi Adityanath concluded by stating that the “Sanatan Gaurav Maha Kumbh” preparations are progressing rapidly, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for visitors.
