Kozhikode Local Body Election Result 2025 LIVE: Kerala went to the polls for its local body election 2025 in two phases, held on two separate occasions in December – 9 and 11. These elections, which occur every five years, determine representatives for the state’s three-tier panchayat system – gram, block, and district panchayats – as well as its municipalities and municipal corporations. This year, polling was successfully completed in 1,199 of Kerala’s 1,200 local bodies. The counting of votes began today at 8 am.

The first phase covered seven districts in the southern and central regions of the state, including the capital, Thiruvananthapuram. This phase recorded a turnout of 70.9 per cent. The second phase, which included key northern districts such as Kannur, Wayanad, and Kasaragod, witnessed an even higher voter turnout at 75 per cent, reflecting strong public engagement.
Both phases had combined voter participation rate of 73.57 per cent. It is slightly lower than the 75.97 per cent turnout seen in the 2020 local body elections.

The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation comprises 75 wards, each represented by an elected councillor serving a five-year term. In the 2020 local body elections, the corporation witnessed a decisive victory for the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Dr Beena Philip of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) currently serves as the Mayor of Kozhikode. The LDF secured a commanding majority by winning 49 of the 75 seats, placing the alliance far ahead of its rivals.
The United Democratic Front (UDF) won 14 wards, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed victory in 7 wards. Independent candidates secured the remaining 5 seats.
