Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier today inaugurated the Kochi Metro by flagging off the commercial operations of first ever multi-modal transport system of India. As the metro services in the city are operational now, many of the local commuters would be keen to know about the list of stations the rail system will cover. As per reports, the initial phase of the services will cover 11 stations spread over 13 kms starting from Aluva to Palarivattom. This is considered to be the longest phase of a metro to be inaugurated in the country. For commuters, who have been travelling by road so far, the distance between Aluva to Palarivattom that used to take 45-60 minutes, will now be reduced to 23 minutes after the inauguration of Kochi Metro services.

The Kochi Metro is one-of-its-kind Communication Based Train Control technology that maximise frequencies and reduce the change of errors. As per reports, every station has been designed with a dedicated theme such as maritime history, western ghats as well as the local history of the city, among others. These stations also have solar panels which is said to enhance the amount of power produce by 35 per cent.

The construction work for the Kochi Metro began in 2013 and was tasked to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). E Sreedharan, former head of DMRC and also known as the ‘metro man’, has acted as an adviser in the newly launched metro rail project. As per Kochi Metro official website, the total cost to build the project is estimated to be around Rs. 5,180 crore. The metro fares will vary from a minimum of Rs. 15 to a maximum of Rs. 30 as off now.
