Union labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate a two-day regional dialogue under the ‘Global Coalition for Social Justice’—an initiative by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) aimed at advancing social justice—on Monday in the national capital.
The Global Coalition, launched in November 2023, has been joined by 336 partners, including 90 governments, according to a release by the labour ministry. “Recognising the need for collaboration between governments, businesses, and workers to promote social justice, India has decided to champion a key coalition intervention—‘responsible business practices for sustainable and inclusive societies,’” it stated.
The dialogue is being organised by the labour ministry and the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), in collaboration with the ILO, with support from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The discussions will focus on skills and employment, expanding social security, gender inclusion in the workplace, responsible business practices, corporate governance for decent work, and harnessing AI for social justice, the release said.
At the inaugural session, key initiatives such as the e-Shram mobile application will be launched. Additionally, several publications, including the ‘Position Paper on Transforming India’s Social Protection Landscape Through Data Pooling,’ ‘Best Practices in Responsible Business Conduct in India,’ and ‘Compendium on Social Protection in India,’ will be unveiled.
At the dialogue, a formal announcement will be made by Indian workers’ and employers’ organizations, of joining the Global Coalition for Social Justice, it added. “Through this key coalition event, India aims to reaffirm its commitment to leading the global march towards social justice and inclusive growth and leveraging global partnerships to drive meaningful action.”
A formal announcement will also be made regarding the participation of Indian workers’ and employers’ organisations in the Global Coalition for Social Justice. “Through this key coalition event, India aims to reaffirm its commitment to leading the global march towards social justice and inclusive growth, while leveraging global partnerships to drive meaningful action,” the release added.
