Three employees of a local liquor bar in Kerala’s Kochi sustained injuries in a late-night shooting incident on the intervening night of February 11 and February 12, police said on Monday, according to PTI.

According to the police, the incident unfolded when one of the customers fired his “handgun” at the bar staff in Kathrikadavu following a late-night altercation on Sunday. The FIR states that the four accused, who visited the bar for drinks, had a dispute on the road in front of the bar’s main gate.

Following the incident, a case has been registered against four individuals under various sections of the IPC, including Section 303 (attempt to murder).

The bar manager, who confronted them about their verbal dispute in front of the establishment, was brutally assaulted by the accused. He suffered beatings and blows to the face and left thigh. Two other employees, Sujin and Akhil, rushed to the scene to intervene and stop the attackers. Enraged, the main accused fired his handgun, injuring them in the abdomen and thighs.

The accused managed to escape in a car after the incident, while the injured bar employees were rushed a nearby hospital. A manhunt is underway based on CCTV visuals. Meanwhile, there are news reports that the suspected car used by the accused was found abandoned in nearby Muvattupuzha.
