A police personnel in Kerala’s Kannur has been charged with attempted murder for hitting a petrol pump staffer and driving with him on the car’s bonnet when asked to pay for fuel.
The cop has been suspended from service for attempting to murder a petrol pump attendant.
Kannur police mess grade ASI driver K Santhosh Kumar rammed into the petrol pump employee, Anil, and drove some distance as the man clung to the vehicle’s bonnet.
The incident took place on Sunday at 3:30 pm when K Santosh Kumar refused to make full payment after getting petrol refilled in his car.
As seen in the CCTV footage, when Anil tried to block Santhosh Kumar from leaving, the cop drove ahead, causing Anil to fall onto the bonnet. Santhosh Kumar did not stop and kept on driving the car carrying Anil for about one kilometre on the busy road.
Anil, who suffered injuries to his hands, lodged a complaint with the Town Police against the ASI driver Santhosh Kumar.
Kannur City police commissioner, Ajith Kumar, confirmed the suspension of the police officer. “The accused has been arrested and suspended from service,” he told PTI.
