A principal of a private school in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district has sparked outrage after allegedly instructing 80 class 10 girls to remove their shirts during a ‘’pen day celebration.’’ The incident took place on Friday in Digwadih under the Jorapokhar police station area. A formal investigation by the district administration was triggered when the students returned home wearing only blazers.

According to latest reports, the girls were celebrating the last day of their examinations by writing messages on each other’s shirts, a tradition often associated with pen day. However, the principal objected to the activity and allegedly asked the students to remove their shirt despite having apologised for their mistake. Parents claimed that the girls were sent back home in their blazers and without shirts.

Investigations underway

Several parents lodged their complaints to Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra expressing their distress. ‘’The administration is considering the matter very seriously, and a committee has been formed to investigate the matter,’’ Mishra said.

The action will be taken based on the findings of the probe. The investigative panel will include district education officer, sub-divisional magistrate, sub-divisional police officer and district social welfare officer.

The disheartened parents were accompanied local MLA Ragini Singh to the DC’s office, criticizing the incident as ‘’shameful and unfortunate.’’ Meanwhile, repeated attempts have been made to get reaction from the principal but it has been unsuccessful. The administration’s findings are underway to decide on further steps to be taken on this controversial case.
