Jharkhand held its Assembly elections in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with results scheduled to be announced on November 23. According to Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar, the state recorded a voter turnout of 67.74% across both phases. In a notable trend, women voters outnumbered their male counterparts in both phases of the election, with 68 of the 81 constituencies reporting a higher female turnout, as per election officials.
The overall turnout of 67.74% marked an increase of 1.65% compared to the 2019 elections. Voting took place for 43 seats on November 13 and 38 seats on November 20. Of the 2.61 crore registered voters, including 1.29 crore women, over 1.76 crore people cast their votes. Notably, 91.16 lakh women voters participated, surpassing male voter turnout by 5.52 lakh votes, the Election Commission confirmed.
Jharkhand Results 2024: Key Candidates and Parties
The political battle in Jharkhand is primarily between two major coalitions: the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led India bloc and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA. A total of 1,211 candidates are competing in this election. Key candidates include Champai Soren, former Chief Minister, who is contesting as a BJP candidate from Saraikela. Purnima Das Sahu, daughter-in-law of former CM Raghubar Das, is contesting from Jamshedpur East as a BJP candidate. Saryu Roy, former BJP leader, is contesting as a Janata Dal (United) candidate from Jamshedpur West.
In Ranchi, the state capital, Mahua Maji of the JMM is up against C.P. Singh of the BJP. Other prominent candidates include Hemant Soren, Chief Minister, contesting from Barhait, and his wife Kalapana Soren, contesting from Gandey. Basant Soren, his brother, is contesting from Dumka, while Babulal Marandi, BJP state president, is contesting from Dhanwar. Amar Kumar Bauri is contesting from Chandankiyari, and Sita Soren, Shibu Soren’s daughter-in-law, is contesting from Jamtara. Sudhesh Mahato, president of AJSU, is contesting from Silli.

Jharkhand Results 2024: Exit Poll Predictions
Several exit polls released on Wednesday showed varied predictions for the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to secure between 42-53 seats, according to multiple surveys. Matrize projected 42-47 seats for the NDA, 25-30 seats for the INDIA bloc, and 1-4 seats for others. Peoples Pulse predicted 44-53 seats for the NDA, with 25-37 seats for the INDIA bloc and 5-9 seats for others. The Times Now-JVC poll suggested a 40-44 seat victory for the NDA, with the INDIA bloc close behind at 30-40 seats, leaving others with just one. Contrasting with the majority, Axis My India projected a significant win for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance, giving the INDIA bloc 53 seats, the NDA 25 seats, and three seats for others. P-Marq also favored the INDIA bloc, predicting 37-47 seats for them, compared to 31-40 seats for the NDA.
Other surveys, like those from Dainik Bhaskar, forecasted a close race, projecting 37-40 seats for the NDA and 36-39 seats for the INDIA bloc. Electoral Edge also leaned towards the INDIA bloc, predicting 42 seats for JMM, 32 seats for the BJP, and 7 seats for others.
