Police have arrested a couple for allegedly killing their 17-year-old daughter after she refused to give them money from her fixed deposit in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district.

The incident took place on January 13 when the victim, named Khushi Kumari (17), was discovered hanging in her room,PTI reported.

The police received information about the incident when the victim’s brother filed a complaint at Bhadaninagar police station on Monday. The complaint alleged that his father and stepmother killed his sister and hanged her body after she refused to give them money from her fixed deposit.

The motive behind the killing is suspected to be Khushi’s refusal to provide them with money from her Rs 6 lakh fixed deposit, which was set to mature.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Birendra Kumar Chaudhary stated that Sunil Mahto and his wife Punam Devi were arrested in connection with the suspicious death of their daughter, following the FIR lodged by the victim’s brother on Monday.

Following the incident, hundreds of local villagers staged outside the police station, demanding the immediate arrest of the couple.
