An IndiGo flight made an emergency landing in Mumbai on Wednesday after suffering an engine failure in mid-air. The incident took place around 9:52 pm as Flight 6E-6271 was heading from Delhi to Goa. The airline cited a “technical snag” for the diversion while source-based reports suggested that the aircraft faced a mid-air engine failure. The incident is the latest in a growing list of flight-related mishaps that made waves since the devastating Air India crash last month.

“A technical snag was detected on flight 6E 6271 while flying from Delhi to Manohar International Airport, Goa on July 16. Following procedures, the aircraft was diverted and landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.

The Airbus A320neo aircraft was grounded for checks and maintenance, with an alternative flight arranged for the stranded passengers. The flight had left from Delhi around 8:00 pm on Wednesday with 191 passengers on board.

Sources told news agency PTI that a “full emergency” was declared for the flight after one of the engines failed. A Hindustan Times report quoting airport officials added that the issue had surfaced while the flight was about 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneshwar in Odisha. The pilot had reportedly declared “PAN PAN PAN” due to a malfunction in engine number one — denoting an urgent update indicating a non-life-threatening emergency

“We were flying from Delhi to Goa and around 9:25 pm pilot made an announcement that we will be landing in Bombay due to technical reasons for safety of the passengers. There was no panic. It was a smooth landing. We have been disembarked from the aircraft and we are awaiting for another aircraft. We were told that around 11:30 pm we will be boarding, but another announcement has been made saying no pilot is available at the moment, and when the pilot will arrive then they will inform the passengers when we can take off again,” one of the passengers told ANI.
