In a dramatic pre-dawn encounter on October 28, 2024, the Indian Army thwarted a well-planned terror ambush in the dense jungles of Battal, Jammu, eliminating three terrorists. According to Maj Gen Sameer Srivastava, GOC 10 RAPID, the operation showcased the army’s rapid response capabilities and seamless coordination with local forces. “Our troops acted swiftly to neutralize the threat, maintaining complete control over the area despite challenging conditions,” he stated in a press briefing.

The ambush, which targeted an army convoy, saw Indian soldiers respond with precision, forcing the attackers to retreat with no casualties to the convoy personnel. Working closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and the Special Operations Group (SOG), the army leveraged local intelligence and community support to secure the region.

As the terrorists attempted to escape, Special Forces were swiftly deployed to reinforce the cordon. Using advanced technology—including night-vision devices, surveillance drones, and unmanned ground vehicles—the troops tracked the attackers in real-time, leaving no room for escape. This incident highlights the Indian Army’s enhanced capabilities in counter-insurgency operations, integrating cutting-edge tech with ground intelligence.

Tragically, the operation also underscored the sacrifices made by all forces involved; an army dog named Phantom sustained fatal injuries, a loss keenly felt by the soldiers.

Addressing rumours on social media about the use of BMP vehicles in the operation, Maj Gen Srivastava clarified, “BMPs were deployed to secure the trapped terrorists, and the Indian Army maintained utmost professionalism, ensuring respectful handling of the mortal remains of those neutralized.”

Alongside Maj Gen Srivastava, Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, and Brig Kapil Taneja, Commander 28 Infantry Brigade, were present during the press briefing, reinforcing the message of resilience and collaboration between Indian armed forces and local agencies in safeguarding the region’s stability.
