The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Red alert for Bihar and Orange alert has been issued for multiple states such as Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, East Madhya Pradesh, and Andaman and Nicobar Island. The Met office has also predicted heavy rainfall over Nagpur and its adjoining region today.
Rainfall rankings over the country:-
In the past 24 hours, the top five rainfall stations are Kodawanpur (Bihar) – 32 cm followed by Baheri (Uttar Pradesh) – 25 cm, Durg (Chhattisgarh) – 17 cm, Nagpur (Vidarbha) – 16 cm, and Gorantla (Rayalaseema) – 15 cm.
Weather warnings:-
The Met office has forecasted light or moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema. “Light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab,” the IMD said in a statement.
A look at the weather conditions across several states:-
Delhi
The weather office has predicted partly cloudy skies with possibility of very light rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. On Saturday, the national capital experienced a sudden change in the weather. The rain lashed several parts, including east Delhi, Shahdara, northeast Delhi, and south Delhi. It recorded a high of 35.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average. The minimum temperature settled at 27 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season’s average.
West Bengal
The Regional Met office has predicted more showers in the state for the next two days. In a statement, the weather office said, “Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are very likely throughout the state over the next 48 hours. The weather is primarily a result of the monsoon trough.” The maximum temperature in the city is likely to remain around 29 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will hover around 26 degrees. On Saturday, the districts such as North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly, and Paschim and Purba Medinipur received rainfall.
Maharashtra
The Met department has forecasted widespread rainfall over north and south Konkan, Goa, east and west Vidarbha regions. It also predicted scattered rainfall over south Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada and fairly wide spread rainfall in north Madhya Maharashtra region.
