The Indo-Gangetic plains are all set to brace for dense to very dense fog for the next couple of days as per the India Meteorological Department weather bulletin. Moreover, a wet spell driven by a western disturbance is set to affect Northwest India from January 10 to 12. Eastern and Northeastern states are predicted to witness thunderstorms, hailstorms, and moderate downpours in the upcoming days. The IMD has also forecast Cold waves and frost conditions in isolated regions, keeping much of India under the grip of extreme winter.
Dense Fog Alert
The Met Department has also notified that dense to very dense fog is likely to continue during daytime and early morning hours over the Indo-Gangetic plains. The most affected regions are Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. In Bihar, fog is expected to be there till January 11, and Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana will experience it till January 10. Similar conditions will prevail in Odisha, Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Jharkhand till January 9.
Meanwhile, northeastern states are bracing for wet weather. Light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms are likely to occur on January 8 across Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Tripura.
A fresh western disturbance is expected to impact Northwest India from January 10 to January 12. Under its influence, light to moderate rains or snowfall is forecast to take place in the Western Himalayan region and downpours in plains like Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.
Cold wave conditions
Cold wave conditions are projected in Himachal Pradesh from January 8 to January 9., West Rajasthan is likely to experience it on January 8. Ground frost has also been forecast in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during the same duration.
Delhi/NCR Weather update
The Weather Department has predicted clear skies for Delhi/NCR region. Cold day conditions along with moderate fog during morning hours. Northwest winds will dominate with a speed of 1-12 kmph by the afternoon and will slow down by evening. Smog and shallow fog will continue to be present at night resulting in poor visibility and cold conditions.
