India released and repatriated 88 Pakistani fishermen lodged in Gujarat jails on Friday.

The fishermen have already left Gujarat and will be handed over to the Pakistani authorities at Attari border on Sunday.

Out of total 115 Pakistani fishermen, release of remaining 27 Pakistani fishermen will be considered as and when their nationality is confirmed by the Pakistan High Commission in India.

Their release has been done so that they can be with their family during the holy month of Ramzan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has repatriated 113 Indian fishermen via Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post, today evening. They were released from Pakistan’s Malir Jail on Thursday and handed over to Indian authorities, today.

The fishermen who belonged to Gujarat had unintentionally ventured into unmarked territorial waters of the two countries. They were released after being imprisoned from nine months to one and a half year.

The Indian fishermen were released after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called up his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif to wish him on the occasion of Ramzan and stressed the need for having peaceful and friendly bilateral ties.
