With continuous Southwest monsoon rain in Kerala, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall and gusty winds in various places across the southern state.

According to the latest IMD update, thunderstorms along with heavy rainfall and gusty wind speeds reaching upto 40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Thiruvananthapuram district, PTI reported.

Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and gusty wind speeds reaching 40 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Thrissur districts.

The weather department also predicted light rainfall at one or two places in all other districts of the southern state.

The shutters of Aruvikkara Dam in Thiruvananthapuram were raised by 25 cm on Saturday morning, according to district authorities.

The district authorities also advised people living in the area near the dam to exercise caution as the shutters are to be further raised in the coming hours.
