Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Haryana president Rampal Majra will run for the October 5 assembly elections from Kalayat in Kaithal district. The party, led by former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, has named seven more candidates for the upcoming Haryana polls.

The INLD is contesting in an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which recently announced four candidates. The INLD’s new candidates include Sheela Rathi for Bahadurgarh, who is the widow of the party’s former state president, Nafe Singh Rathi, who was killed in February. Other candidates are Arjun Singh Chautala from Rania, Sher Singh Barshami from Ladwa, Umed Lohan from Narnaund, Taiyab Hussain Bhimsika from Hathin, and Master Gurtej Singh Sukhchain from Kalanwali (SC).

Earlier, the INLD had said that senior party leader Abhay Singh Chautala would seek re-election from Ellenabad seat while it had also named the candidates for Yamunanagar and Mahendragarh.

The BSP will contest 37 of the 90 seats in Haryana, with the remainder for INLD. The alliance leaders have decided to project INLD leader Abhay Chautala as its chief ministerial face.

The BSP-INLD alliance aims to focus on justice for the poor and empowerment of weaker sections. This coalition marks a return after a breakup in February 2019 due to internal conflicts within the Chautala family.

The ruling BJP is seeking to win a third consecutive term in Haryana, where the INLD has been out of power for the past 20 years.
