Vadodara of Gujarat is facing a flood-like situation as heavy rainfall has drenched the city, resulting in severe water-logging across the region on Tuesday. According to the IMD report, Vadodara has received 26 cm of rainfall resulting in the overflowing of Vishwamitri River.

Severe waterlogging impacts traffic & residential areas

The overflow of the river has led to waterlogging in several residential areas. Many of the residents were seen wading through knee-deep water and facing difficulties in daily chores. Traffic snarls were also reported from various areas of the city.

Overflow of reservoirs

The waterlogging level increased as the authorities decided to release water from the Ajwa and Pratappura Reservoirs into the Vishwamitri river because of the continuous rainfall. Residents of low-lying areas complained that the water has entered their homes since Monday, as reported by ANI. Many of the residents have evacuated and shifted to a safer place. The locals of Malpur are struggling to get out of the waterlogged streets because of the incessant rains that have been happening for the last three days. Residents are also struggling with the shortage of food and essentials.

The Gujarat Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey has stated that a meeting was conducted between Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and district officials. Issues like medical supplies, uninterrupted electricity, and shortage of other necessities. As per ANI report, more than 1,653 people were saved from the danger and 1,7800 were transferred to a safer place. More than 99 people have lost their lives in this monsoon season till now, as per the Commissioner.

As per the IMD weather bulletin, heavy downpours were recorded in several other regions of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Dwarka, Porbandar, Bhuj, Rajkot, Okha, and Naliya. Meanwhile, the Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev Temple complex in Vadodara was inundated leading to its shutdown for the time being.
