Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh on Friday said that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured that he will provide Jammu and Kashmir all the help it requires to contain the violent clash between the Sikh community and the state police, adding that the latter has directed the deputation of extra forces to control the situation.

“There has been an unfortunate sequence of events in Jammu since yesterday .We just met Rajnath Singh; the Home Secretary was also there. The Home Minister has assured us of all kind of help in getting the things under control. He has also given instruction of deputing extra forces to control the situation,” Jitendra Singh told ANI here.

“At the same time as a senior leader he has also appealed for maintaining peace amongst the various groups. The Home Ministry is in constant contact with the state government and I am sure soon the

things will be under control,” he added.

On Thursday, at least one civilian was killed and 25 persons, including policemen, were injured when members of Sikh community clashed with the police in the Satwari area of Jammu.

According to reports, the clashes erupted when people, protesting the removal of a hoarding, turned violent.

Meanwhile, protesters in Jammu have blocked the Jammu- Pathankot National Highway over the clash, with the unrest spreading to Srinagar.
