A 12-year-old girl was killed while four persons sustained injured in Ghaziabad after being struck by lightning on Friday morning. The incident took place in Indirapuram’s Makanpur, near National Highway 9, reports PTI.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinay Kumar Singh Ajmerul died on the spot when a tree she was standing under was struck by lightning.

Others who were present along with her Jasmine (17), Azmeri Khatoon (35), Shalo (40), and Shabana (30) sustained injuries. They were on their way to a nearby market.

A purported video of the lightning strike was captured by a CCTV camera, which showed a flash of light hitting a tree, and later people can be seen running out.

Indirapuram ACP Swatantra Kumar Singh told The Hindustan Times that the incident had taken place at around 8 30 AM on Friday morning, when the city was experiencing heavy rainfall.

Police said that the injured are daily wage labourers and are originally from Bihar.

Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and rushed the injured to a government hospital. The minor’s body has been sent for post-mortem.

The SDM said that ex-gratia of Rs four lakh will be provided to the father of the deceased.
