In an initiative to ensure a transparent and secure electoral process, authorities in Doda district are deploying cutting-edge technology across all three assembly constituencies for the upcoming assembly elections. For the first time, CCTV cameras will be installed at all 534 polling stations, with live feeds monitored from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. This comprehensive surveillance system also includes cameras set up at special Nakas (checkpoints) to oversee road activities.
Harvinder Singh, District Election Officer for Doda, emphasized the focus on surveillance, stating, “One of the main focuses of this upcoming Assembly election is surveillance. We have established 27 static surveillance teams working in three shifts at the borders and nine Nakas, operating 24 hours a day, all equipped with CCTV cameras. Additionally, we have 27 flying squad teams conducting surprise Nakas and raids based on actionable inputs and complaints. We will be live-streaming footage from all 534 polling stations, ensuring continuous monitoring throughout the election period.”
Security measures are also being reinforced in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, with significant force deployment evident across the region. The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results scheduled for October 8. This election marks the first in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.
The Congress and National Conference (NC) are contesting the elections in alliance, with NC aiming for 51 of the 90 seats and Congress fielding candidates for 32 seats. Both parties have agreed to a friendly contest on certain seats, while reserving a few for smaller allies. The strategic collaboration highlights the competitive nature of this year’s assembly polls.
