A day after Delhi Chief Arvind Kejriwal skipped the fifth summons by the Enforcement Directorate, the central agency on Saturday filed a complaint against him in a court here for not appearing before it in connection with the excise policy case.

The ED made its submissions before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra, who put up the matter for further hearing on February 7.

The ED had issued him the summons on Wednesday asking him to appear before it two days later, and Kejriwal skipped it on Friday.

Kejriwal, who is the national convenor of the AAP, had earlier skipped the four summons calling them “illegal and politically motivated”.

Three senior leaders of the party – former deputy Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and AAP communications in-charge Vijay Nair – have been arrested in the case related to their alleged involvement in alleged irregularities in formulation and implementation of the now scrapped excise policy case.

Both Sisodia and Singh were arrested the same day they were questioned last year, and the AAP has alleged that the ED wants to arrest Kejriwal in the same manner.

The AAP has claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to topple the Kejriwal-led Delhi government.

Arvind Kejriwal’s ED summons timeline:

In October 2023, he was issued the first summons to appear before it on November 2. He skipped the summons citing work in Delhi, and poll preparations for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh elections.

He received the second summons to appear before it on December 21, but he skipped it saying he had to attend Vipassana session.

The CM was asked to appear before ED on January 3, citing Rajya Sabha elections and Republic Day celebrations.

During the fourth summons, when the ED asked him to appear on January 18, AAP sources had said that he was to be in Goa for a three-day visit from January 18-20.
