The grand Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is now open for general public from today. A day after the grand pran pratishtha ceremony, the first ‘darshan’ of Ram Lalla complete with glorious shringaar mesmerised many. While a lot has been said about the 51-inch black stone idol depicting Lord Ram at the age of five, not much is known about the ornaments worn by Ram Lalla. So in case you are wondering about the special shringaar of Ram Lalla, here are key details shared by Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra:

  1. According to the temple officials, extensive research was carried out to define the details of Shri Ram’s look. The shringaar is based on the texts such as Valmiki Ramayana, the Adhyatma Ramayana, Alavandar Stotra and Ramcharitmanas.
  2. Conceptualised by Ayodhya-based poet Yatindra Mishra, these majestic ornaments have been crafted by Lucknow-based Harsahaimal Shiamlal Jewellers.
  3. Adorned in golden yellow dhoti made of Banarasi fabric, Ram Lalla Virajman sports a red angavastram. The angavastram or pataka embellished with original zari work, features Vaishnav symbols – Padma, Shankh, Mayur and Chakra. The man behind Ram Lalla’s garments is Delhi-based designer Manish Tripathi. Till the day of pran pratishtha ceremony, Tripathi worked from Ayodhya Dham itself.
  4. In the sacred North Indian tradition, the divine crown (Mukut) that graces the noble brow of Ram Lalla is a testament to opulence and devotion. Forged from the purity of gold and adorned with resplendent rubies, emeralds, and diamonds, it stands as a beacon of celestial beauty. At its very heart, the emblem of Surya Dev, the sun god, shines with divine radiance. Delicately woven strands of pearls on the right side of the crown weave a tapestry of intricate elegance.
  5. In harmonious complement, the ‘Kundal,’ intricately crafted with peacock motifs, mirrors the divine design. Its golden allure, embellished with the brilliance of diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, resonates with celestial grace. Ram Lalla’s neck is adorned with the sacred Kantha, a crescent-shaped necklace adorned with a myriad of precious gems. Floral designs, symbols of good fortune, surround an image of Surya Dev at its core. Crafted from the sacred essence of gold and adorned with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, this necklace exudes divine splendor, with elegant strands of emeralds cascading below.
  6. At the very heart of Ram Lalla rests the Kaustubha Mani, a sacred tradition worn by Lord Vishnu and his incarnations. Inlaid with a large ruby and diamonds, it symbolizes divine connection and radiates with sublime significance. A divine ornament of profound significance, the five-stranded necklace below the throat, adorned with diamonds and emeralds, culminates in an ornate pendant of majestic beauty.
  7. The Vaijayanti or Vijayamala, Ram Lalla’s third and longest necklace, is a golden manifestation intermittently studded with rubies. A symbol of victory, it intricately depicts auspicious symbols cherished in the Vaishnava tradition. Lotus, Shankh, Sudarshana Chakra, and the Mangal Kalash grace its sacred form, adorned with flowers beloved by gods and goddesses. Adorning Ram Lalla’s waist is the Kanchi or Kardhani, a gem-studded waistband of gold adorned with diamonds, rubies, pearls, and emeralds. Small bells symbolizing purity resonate, while strands of pearls, rubies, and emeralds sway in divine harmony.
  8. Bhujbandh, the sacred armlets on both arms, are studded with gold and precious stones, embodying divine strength and grace. The Kangan and Mudrika, beautiful bangles adorned with gems, grace both hands, while rings adorned with precious gems and dangling pearls enhance divine beauty. In humble reverence, the Chhada or Painjaniya adorns Ram Lalla’s feet with gem-studded anklets and toe rings, inlaid with diamonds and rubies. Golden ankle bells resound with every sacred step. In the left hand, a golden bow adorned with pearls, rubies, and emeralds signifies divine protection, while the right hand cradles a golden arrow, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness. Around the divine neck, a garland of vibrant floral patterns, meticulously crafted by dedicated hands, graces the sacred idol.
  9. Ram Lalla’s noble forehead is adorned with a traditional auspicious tilak, a divine mark created with diamonds and rubies. At his feet, a decorated lotus unfolds, beneath which a golden garland is arranged, symbolizing purity and devotion. Since Ram Lalla is in the form of a five-year-old child, traditional silver toys are also part of the shringaar. A rattle, elephant, horse, camel, toy cart, and a spinning top, embodying innocence and joy, are laid before the divine idol. Above Ram Lalla’s radiant halo, a resplendent golden umbrella unfurls, casting a celestial shade upon the divine presence.
  10. While focus has now shifted to the new idol consecrated yesterday, the old idol will remain in the Ram Mandir. The original idol of Ram Lalla, which is five to six inches in terms of height, has now been placed in front of the new Ram Lalla idol. Other idols, which were not selected, are now on different floors of Ayodhya Mandir.
