A DJ (disco jockey), working at a club in Ranchi, Jharkhand, was shot dead from point-blank range by an armed man in the early hours of Monday,
The DJ, identified by the police by only his first name, Sandeep, was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
A CCTV footage shows a man, using a T-shirt to cover his face, walk up to the DJ and fire with a rifle at him at point blank range. Following this, an injured Sandeep tries to walk to a corner before slumping to the ground. The accused then walks out the door. A signboard in the background reads ‘Xtreme Sports Bar’.

The accused and four others arrived at the bar when it had closed and asked the bar staff to serve them alcohol.
“On being refused, a heated argument ensued between them and the bar staff. During the argument, one of them brought in a rifle and shot at the DJ in his chest from point-blank range,” said Chandan Sinha, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ranchi.
The accused fled after the incident and the injured DJ was taken to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where he was declared dead.

Bar operator Vishal Singh told ANI, “Yesterday at around 10:30 pm, a scuffle broke out between two groups. We immediately informed police and one person was arrested by police. After shutting the bar, we went back home but one of our staff, DJ Sandeep stayed here. Later I got a call that one of our staff had been shot… We hope that the accused will be arrested soon…”
Meanwhile, Hatia DSP Pramod Mishra said, “The accused has been identified. We are searching for him. He has a previous criminal record and has been to jail earlier as well. We are investigating the matter. He is a suspicious person. The deceased is a resident of Chhapra…”
