Delhi’s minimum temperature dropped below five degrees on Friday morning, making it the coldest day of this winter season. The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) New Delhi-Safdarjung monitoring station reported a minimum temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius.
Other regions in the city such as Lodhi Road and Ayanagar recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
This is a variation of below 4 degrees from normal for this time of the year. On Thursday, Delhi reported a minimum temperature of 6.2 degrees and the maximum temperature was recorded as 24.1 degrees Celsius, ANI reported.
The national capital has been witnessing below-normal temperatures for a couple of days. The minimum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 7.4 degrees Celsius, on Tuesday at 6.8 degrees Celsius and on Monday at 6.5 degrees Celsius.
Hisar in Haryana, meanwhile, was the coldest place in the plains of India where the minimum temperature touched 4.2 degrees Celsius.
As the winter finally sets in, several parts of north and northeast India experienced dense fog on Friday morning, affecting visibility and disrupting normal life. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), very dense fog was observed in isolated pockets over Punjab.
Meanwhile, isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura witnessed shallow to moderate fog early on Friday morning.
Delhi colder than Shimla
On Friday, the national capital was colder than Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla, as the minimum temperature for Shimla city was recorded at 6.8 degrees Celsius in the morning.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature is expected to stay around 24 degrees in Delhi. In Shimla, the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 15 degrees today.
