In last night’s events, after the National Capital Region (NCR) was hit by a storm again this month, four people lost their lives in Delhi and Ghaziabad. Occurred on a late Wednesday evening, it caused largescale damage to vehicles and at least 20 trees were uprooted alongside major roads in the area. Affecting traffic and infrastructure, there were multiple power cuts reported across Delhi NCR.

As revealed by the Delhi Police, an unidentified man died after a high-beam electric cable fell on him and his wheelchair at around 7:50 PM at Lodhi Road. Similarly due to strong winds, 22-year-old Azhar got trapped under a tree and died in Gokulpuri. Despite of reaching the hospital, he was declared deceased when brought in.

As per Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner Swatantra Singh from Kavinagar, a 40-year-old man also lost his life in Ghaziabad after a tree fell on the victim. It was reported that he was identified as Muzamil and was riding his bike at the moment. With major damages in the region, another loss was reported from Ghaziabad. It was of a 38-year-old woman after the wall of BMR Public School collapsed on her temporary housing arrangement. Tree falling was reported at multiple locations in Delhi which caused major disruption in traffic as per the Traffic Police. Some prime locations were hindered, such as, Copernicus Marg, Teen Murti Marg, Mathura Road and KG Marg.

No respite for public transport travellers as well since the Metro operations were also affected. As per DMRC spokesperson, there was “some damage to OHE (overhead equipment)”. He majorly gave the reason as the “sudden windstorm” or “external objects falling/coming onto Metro tracks at certain locations”. However, normal services resumed by 10 PM on the Yellow Line and 11 PM on the Red Line.

What started as a dust-storm with gushing winds led to heavy downpour and hailstorms in certain regions of the Delhi NCR. It led to over 10 flight disruptions. Causing major damage and significant trauma, an Indigo flight faced severe turbulence. Leading to power cuts in many regions of the capital and the traffic congestions caused widespread concern among the residents.
