BJP MP Yogendra Chandoliya said on Wednesday that exit polls suggest the BJP has “defeated” Arvind Kejriwal and his “corrupt government.” Voting for Delhi’s 70-member assembly ended the same evening, with a voter turnout of 60.42%.
After polling, most exit polls predicted that the BJP would form the next government in Delhi. The votes will be counted on February 8. While the BJP is trying to regain control of the capital, AAP is hoping for a third straight win.
Chandoliya said the BJP was confident from the start and that people have decided to remove Kejriwal after 11 years of what he called bad governance. He added that exit polls clearly show the BJP is winning.
Most exit polls suggest the BJP is ahead, AAP is trailing, and Congress is expected to perform poorly. Different polls have predicted varying results. Some say BJP could win around 40-60 seats, while AAP may get 20-30.
Interestingly, WeePreside’s exit poll differs significantly, predicting an AAP win with 46-52 seats, BJP at 18-23, and Congress at 0-1.
As of 5 PM on Wednesday, Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 57.70%. Votes will be counted on February 8. AAP has dominated the last two assembly elections, securing 62 out of 70 seats in 2020, while BJP won eight. Congress, once in power for 15 years, has failed to win a single seat in the past two elections.
