Delhi’s former Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has conceded defeat and congratulated BJP on its victory. In his statement he maintained that AAP memebers will continue their social cause and help peopel as and how they need. According to his statement, politics was just a means to continue their goal of being of service to the people. However, his political future hangs in balance.

Kejriwal’s defeat after 10 years of being the Chief Minister of Delhi and the loss of severa key memebers of AAP has raised key questions about Aam Aadmi Party’s startegy, governance and long-term vision.

Arvind Kejriwal, on his part, is mired in legal issues and also has a host of controversies to clear. He was jailed on charges of corruption by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate on alleged irrengularities in the now scrapped Delhi Excise Policy. He is out on bail. He was recently summoned for bail.

According to legal experts the minimum jail term if convicted in money laundering case could be upto seven years. Had he won the elections, Kejriwal would have been covered under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. In that case if he was convicted and imprisoned for over two years, he would have been disqualified from holding office under the Representation of the People Act.

Meanwhile, the Haryana government has filed a case against Kejriwal on his statement about “poison” in the Yamuna water from Haryana. This case was filed under the Disaster Management Act.
