The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation has initiated an inquiry following a disturbing incident where a dead frog was reportedly discovered in a packet of potato wafers, prompting concerns over food safety in the region.

Complaint leads to immediate action

The civic authorities launched the investigation on Wednesday after receiving a complaint from Jasmin Patel, a resident of Pushkar Dham society. Patel claimed that his four-year-old niece had purchased a packet of Crunchex potato wafers from a nearby shop on Tuesday evening. It was during consumption that she allegedly found the decomposed frog in the packet, raising immediate alarm among the family members.

D.B. Parmar, a food safety officer, confirmed the preliminary findings to reporters, stating, “One Jasmin Patel informed us that a dead frog was found in a packet of Crunchex, manufactured by Balaji Wafers. We visited the shop from where it had been purchased last night. Preliminary probe suggested it was indeed a frog in a decomposed state.”

As part of the investigation ordered by the municipal commissioner, samples from the batch of wafer packets in question will be collected to ascertain the veracity of the claim and to determine if there were any lapses in manufacturing or packaging processes.

“This is a serious matter concerning public health, and we are taking all necessary steps to investigate thoroughly,” Parmar added.

Patel expressed concern over the incident, mentioning that his niece and nine-month-old daughter had consumed some wafers from the packet before noticing the unsettling discovery. The incident follows closely on the heels of a recent report from Mumbai, where a resident claimed to have found a piece of human finger in ice cream purchased online.
