The bodies of six Naxals have been recovered following a fierce encounter between security forces and Naxals in the forest area near Chikurbatti-Pusbaka in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh today.
Six Naxalites also included a woman cadre, who was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday, a police official said.
Teams from the DRG, CRPF 229, and CoBRA conducted the operation in response to an encounter that broke out between security forces and Naxals.
The encounter happened in the jungles of Chikurbhatti and Pusbaka villages under the Basaguda police station area, when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P told PTI.
Meanwhile, personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) were pressed into the action, Sundarraj added.
The search operation is still underway in the area, he added.
Notably, Bijapur district comes under the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency which will go to polls in the first phase of general elections on April 19. Further, the encounter underscores the ongoing struggle against Naxal insurgency in the region, with security forces actively engaged in search operations to ensure the area is secure.
