Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday confirmed that 19 Covid-19 patients are currently hospitalised in the national capital, while assuring citizens that the situation remains under control and does not warrant panic.

“Nineteen patients are admitted to hospitals, and the remaining are receiving treatment at their homes. But Covid-19 has not reached the point where people need to worry. The government is ready for every situation,” Gupta said, according to a PTI report. She further emphasised that Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure is well-prepared and fully equipped to manage any potential spike in cases.

The chief minister also appealed to citizens to be careful, saying that though the infection is being monitored closely, public support is also important. She further added that citizens have to be careful as well.

The Delhi government last week had issued an advisory to the city’s hospitals, instructing them to ensure availability of hospital beds, life-saving medicines, and oxygen supply. The move is part of a broader precautionary strategy as sporadic Covid-19 cases continue to be reported across parts of India.

According to official data, Delhi had 104 active Covid-19 cases as of Monday, with 24 patients having recovered in the past week. Most of the people infected are being kept under home isolation, with a very small percentage in need of hospitalisation.

Covid-19 raise concerns in Maharashtra

Meanwhile, Mumbai has seen a gradual rise in daily Covid-19 cases. As per reports, the city recorded 36 new infections on May 28, a notable increase compared to the average of 11 daily cases reported earlier in the month. In total, Mumbai has so far reported 346 cases in May alone and 352 since the beginning of the year.

Maharashtra, which includes Mumbai and other urban centres like Thane, has recorded 521 cases from January 1 to May 28, averaging 3.5 cases per day. The state has also reported six Covid-related deaths during this period, although all deceased patients reportedly had underlying comorbidities.

Thane has witnessed a steady rise in infections as well, logging 12 new cases on May 28. The city’s active caseload now stands at 72, with 16 patients hospitalised and 45 under home isolation. Ten patients have recovered so far.

The developments underscore the necessity of vigilant watchfulness, particularly as states prepare to deal with any kind of resurgence. Health officials throughout both Delhi and Maharashtra are keeping a close eye on the matter and emphasizing cautionary responses from the public.
