Legal action and complaint details
Complaint filed by Sanket Gupta, Convenor of BJP Delhi Election Cell. FIR cites multiple sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 including 18(2), 336(3), 336(4), 340(2), 352, 356(2) and 61(2). Action taken after the video was shared on social media which shows PM Modi dreaming about his mother who is shown criticising his political decisions.
Political backlash intensifies
The Congress party had faced criticism earlier after an unidentified individual reportedly went on stage during the Congress-led ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga, Bihar, and hurled abuses at PM Modi and his mother. Following the latest video, the BJP intensified its criticism of opposition parties, particularly the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), targeting leaders Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.
PM Modi condemns abuses against his mother
Speaking publicly, PM Modi strongly condemned the alleged remarks against his mother, emphasising the wider societal insult: “Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect. I had not even imagined what happened a few days ago in this tradition-rich Bihar. My mother was abused by the RJD-Congress in Bihar. These abuses are not just an insult to my mother. These are insults to the mothers, sisters and daughters of the country.”
The Prime Minister further highlighted that Heeraben Modi, who passed away at the age of 100 and had no involvement in politics, was unfairly targeted by the state of RJD and Congress.
