If the Lok Sabha elections were held today, the Congress and the BJP would probably gain seats at the expense of their allies in Maharashtra, says India Today’s Mood of the Nation survey. According to the survey, the BJP might gain three more seats, bringing its total to 12, if the elections were held today. It further stated that the Congress would also gain three additional seats, bringing its total to 16.

The Mood of the Nation poll was conducted shortly before the Maharashtra assembly election to analyse voting tendencies for the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP-led NDA suffered a major setback in the Lok Sabha elections held between April-June, as it only won 17 of the 48 seats. The BJP won 9, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena 7 and Ajit Pawar-led NCP 1 seat. However, the INDIA bloc secured 30 seats, consisting of 13 seats gained by the Congress, 9 seats by Shiv Sena (UBT), and 8 seats by the NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar.

The survey further highlighted that 25 per cent of participants expressed satisfaction with the state government’s performance, 34 per cent expressed some degree of satisfaction while 33 per cent expressed dissatisfaction. As per the survey, 11 per cent of participants expressed satisfaction with the opposition’s performance, 21 per cent expressed some degree of satisfaction and 30 per cent expressed dissatisfaction.

Later this year, there will be elections for the Maharashtra Assembly. However, the schedule has not yet been announced by the Election Commission.
