The Indian National Congress (INC) demanded that the Prime Minister convene an all-party meeting and call a special session of Parliament to hold a detailed discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and the ceasefire understanding reached between India and Pakistan to halt all firing and military activity.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Sunday raised several questions about the possibility of third-party mediation between India and Pakistan, following comments made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about hosting talks at a “neutral site.”

In a series of tweets, Ramesh highlighted several critical issues, asking whether the Indian government had abandoned the Simla Agreement and whether it had now opened the door to third-party mediation in resolving the Kashmir dispute. He also raised the question of whether diplomatic channels between India and Pakistan were being reopened, and what kind of commitments India had sought from Pakistan in this regard.

“The Indian National Congress demands answers from the government regarding these developments. The Prime Minister must come forward and provide clarity,” Ramesh said, pointing out that these issues needed direct answers from the government. He also brought attention to the remarks made by two former Army Chiefs, which he believes warrant a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ramesh further emphasized that the country naturally recalls the leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, especially for her resolute and courageous actions during the 1971 war. “It is but natural for the country to recall Indira Gandhi for her extraordinary leadership during 1971,” he said in his tweet.

The Congress leader’s comments come in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan and the recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who expressed his willingness to mediate on the Kashmir issue. The Congress party is urging the government to clarify its position and explain its diplomatic strategy regarding the ongoing India-Pakistan situation.
