The cold wave gripping North India is all set to have its effect on Karnataka in the coming days, The Indian Express reported citing the India Meteorological Department’s forecast for the current week. The northern parts of the state could witness minimum temperatures five to six degrees below normal.
Minimum temperatures in South Karnataka, including Bengaluru, are expected to drop 2-3 degrees below normal over the next two days. However, a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring rain from December 19, leading to a rise in minimum temperatures.
The IMD has forecasted a drop in minimum temperatures by 6-7°C below normal over Bidar, Vijayapura, Bijapur, and Kalaburagi districts, and by 4-5°C below normal over Yadgir, Raichur, and Bagalkot districts for the next three days. A gradual rise in minimum temperatures is expected thereafter in North Interior Karnataka.
The forecast for South Interior Karnataka indicates a drop in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C below normal over the next three days, followed by a gradual increase. Meanwhile, no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over Coastal Karnataka.
The “severe cold wave conditions” in Bidar, Vijayapura, and Kalaburagi districts will bring temperatures down to 6-7°C, significantly below the normal range of 12-13°C for December.
Meanwhile, “cold wave conditions” in Yadgir, Raichur, and Bagalkot districts will see temperatures drop to around 10°C, compared to the normal range of 14-15°C. The cold weather in North Karnataka is expected to persist until Thursday.
