In a significant operation, Chhattisgarh police have confirmed the killing of nine Naxals during an intense encounter in the forested region along the Dantewada-Bijapur border on Tuesday. The operation, which began around 10:30 am, saw a joint police team engaging with Maoists following credible intelligence about their presence.
According to sources, a substantial number of automatic weapons were recovered from the slain Naxals, including SLR rifles, .303 rifles, and .315 bore rifles. All security personnel involved in the operation are reported to be safe, and search operations are ongoing in the area. A detailed report on the encounter will be provided once the operation concludes.
The encounter comes on the heels of another significant clash on August 29, where three female Naxalites from the North Bastar Division Committee were killed in the dense forests of Abujhmad in Narayanpur. The joint operation by the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Border Security Force led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and Naxal materials.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism by March 2026. During an inter-state coordination meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and senior officials from neighboring states, Shah reviewed both the progress in counter-Naxal measures and the development of infrastructure projects in regions plagued by Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
As security forces continue their efforts, the region remains under close surveillance, with operations aimed at dismantling Naxal strongholds and restoring stability to affected areas.
