A massive fire broke out early on Tuesday at Nehru Hospital, situated within the premises of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. The hospital facility includes numerous patient wards and administrative offices.

According to a senior PGIMER official, an immediate response ensured the safe evacuation of all patients, preventing any major damage.

Hospital authorities attributed the cause of the fire to a UPS system malfunction.

With the assistance of the hospital staff, especially the nurses, all patients were shifted to secure areas, including those in the emergency ward. In response, the Chandigarh Administration sent fire brigades to control the situation.

No injuries have been reported in connection with this incident. Furthermore, a committee has been established to oversee the ongoing situation
