With security forces stepping up their massive operation against the terror network in Jammu and Kashmir, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday asked the Centre to move forward carefully and ensure that innocent civilians are not alienated. She said the government should be cautious and make a clear distinction between terrorists and ordinary people after the recent Pahalgam terror attack, pointing out that those who stand against terrorism must not be pushed away.

“The Indian Government must tread with caution and carefully distinguish between terrorists and civilians following the recent Pahalgam attack. It must not alienate innocent people, especially those opposing terror,” Mufti wrote on X.

Talking about the ongoing crackdown by the government after the deadly Pahalgam attack, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti claimed that thousands of people have been arrested and that homes of both ordinary Kashmiris and militants are being demolished. She urged the government to make sure that innocent people are not harmed. Mufti said that if the forces were not careful, then the operation could actually help the terrorists by creating more division and fear among people.

Terrorists launched gunfire in Kashmir‘s Pahalgam on April 22 afternoon, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people who were mostly tourists. This is the deadliest attack in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama incident, where 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives. The violence has shocked the region and the nation collectively.
