Earthquake of magnitude 4.9 hits Tajikistan

An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 on a richter scale hit Tajikistan on Monday evening, the National center for Seismology (NCS) said. According to the National Center for Seismology, the tremors were felt around 5:46 pm and struck at a depth of 194 km.

Delhi: 17 cases registered for violation of ban on firecrackers during Diwali

Delhi Police North East District registered 17 cases for violation of the ban on firecrackers during Diwali, said police officials on Monday. Four cases were registered at Seelampur Police Station and four at Bhajanpura Police Station (PS). Meanwhile, two cases each were registered at Nand Nagri PS, Welcome PS, Dayalpur PS and Jafrabad PS, while one case was registered at Khajuri Khas PS.

Uttarkashi tunnel collapse: Rescue efforts on

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday arrived at the site in Uttarkashi where 40 workers are trapped after an under-construction tunnel on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway partially collapsed a day back. Rescuers who worked overnight trying to prepare an escape passage for the labourers have managed to contact them on walkie-talkies and provided them with food and water, the Silkyara police control room said, adding that all workers are safe. Largest Gaza hospital ‘not functioning’ amid Israeli assault

The largest hospital in Gaza has ceased to function and fatalities among patients are rising, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday, as a fierce Israeli assault continues in the Hamas-controlled strip. Hospitals in the north of the Palestinian enclave, including the al-Shifa complex, are blockaded by Israeli forces and barely able to care for those inside, with three newborns dead and more at risk from power outages amid intense fighting nearby, according to medical staff. Delhi sees over 200 fire incidents on Diwali

The Delhi Fire Service received 208 calls of fire-related incidents, 22 of them caused by firecrackers, on Diwali, an official said on Monday. There were major fire incidents in Sadar Bazar, East of Kailash and Tilak Nagar on Sunday, although no one was injured, the official said. According to the Delhi Fire Service official, a major fire broke out at a godown in Deputy Ganj of Sadar Bazar in Central Delhi. (PTI)
