EAM Jaishankar asks UN member states not to allow ‘political convenience’ to determine responses to terrorism
India on Tuesday asked the UN member states not to allow “political convenience” to determine responses to terrorism, extremism and violence, in a veiled attack on Canada amidst the diplomatic standoff over the killing of a Khalistani separatist. Addressing the 78th UN General Assembly session here, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also said respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs cannot be “exercises in cherry picking” as he asserted that the days when a few nations set the agenda and expected others to fall in line are over. Internet suspended in Manipur for next 5 days
In response to students in Imphal being baton-charged by police while protesting the suspected kidnapping and murder of two youngsters, the Manipur government on Tuesday once again announced a five-day ban on internet use.
According to officials, 45 pupils were hurt by the police action, many of them girls. The state government has decided to “suspend/curb the mobile internet data services, internet/data services through VPN in the territorial jurisdiction of the state of Manipur for five days with immediate effect until 7:45 pm of October 1, 2023.”
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain admits in Mumbai hospital
BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital after a complaint of high blood pressure earlier today. The ECG and 2D Eco reports showed he suffered a minor heart attack. Angioplasty was done by Dr Jalil Parkar and Cardiologist Dr. Suresh Vijan at the hospital. (PTI)

Tax department notifies ‘Angel Tax’ rules for valuing investments in startups
The income tax department has notified rules for valuation of investments by resident and non-resident investors in startups, thus paving way for implementation of the changes brought in 2023-24 Budget. As per the changes in Rule 11UA of I-T rules, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) provides that the valuation of compulsorily convertible preference shares (CCPS) and equity shares issued by unlisted startups can be based on the fair market value. ‘Apple should open up its fiercely guarded ecosystem to competitors’
EU industry chief Thierry Breton on Tuesday called Apple CEO Tim Cook to open up the iPhone maker’s fiercely guarded ecosystem to its rivals. Breton’s comments came after meeting Cook in Brussels. “The net job for Apple and other Big Tech, under the DMA (Digital Markets Act) is to open up its gates to competitors,” Breton told Reuters. Karnataka Dy CM DK Shivakumar says, “The Cauvery Water Management Committee meeting is going on and the people of Tamil Nadu have demanded 12,500 cusecs of water. Imran Khan get another 14 days judicial remand in Cipher case
A Pakistan special court on Tuesday extended judicial remand of former prime minister Imran Khan for another 14 days in the Cipher case, blighting the chances of his early release. Khan, also the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was arrested last month after a case was filed against him for allegedly violating the Official Secrets Act by disclosing a cable (a.k.a. cipher) send by the country’s embassy in Washington last year in March. Schools closed for classes 1-5 in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore, Ranipet due to heavy rain
Authorities have declared a holiday for classes 1-5 for Vellore and Ranipet after heavy rains lashed several districts of Tamil Nadu. The announcement was made by the Vellore and Ranipet District collectors respectively. Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Madhurathakam, Cheyyur, Thiruporur, Thirukkalukundram, Chengalpattu East Coastal Road and Sholinganallur from last night, they said.
Old excise policy likely to be extended, say sources
The old excise regime implemented on September 1 last year in Delhi is likely to be extended, sources said. The existing policy is set to expire on September 30. The sources said on Monday that the new policy is yet to be announced by the Delhi government.

Yogi govt to rejuvenate 62,000 PWD roads in 2023-24
The Uttar Pradesh government headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is making rapid strides towards its goal to remove potholes and rejuvenate its roads. According to the Public Works Department, it has already achieved 30 percent of its target regarding pothole clearance and street restoration in the state so far in the financial year 2023-24. Besides, in National Highways, 75.30 per cent of the restoration target has been achieved.
