A former army man, overseeing the construction of his two-wheeler showroom was shot dead in Kalyani village in Bihar’s Rohtas district on Wednesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Bijendra Singh (55). He fell victim to a shooting allegedly carried out by Mithilesh Kumar (23) and Aditya Kumar (25), both residents of Bhojpur district.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 9:45 AM, prompting Singh’s family to raise an alarm. Some villagers chased the assailants, resulting in the deaths of the two by the mob.

Ajit Kumar, an accomplice of the accused, was also beaten up by the mob and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Additionally, Ankit Kumar, a local resident who sustained gunshot injuries during the altercation, is receiving medical attention at Sadar Hospital, Sasaram, the district headquarters of Rohtas, The Indian Express reported.

“It could be a case of business rivalry or personal enmity. We are also talking to villagers to identify those involved in the lynching,” Rohtas Superintendent of Police Vineet Kumar said while addressing the media.

The Rohtas police have filed two separate cases in connection with the incident, one pertaining to the murder of the ex-Armyman and the other against unidentified villagers involved in the lynching.

Presently, no arrests have been made in relation to the events in Kalyani village. The authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
