New CCTV footage has emerged, presenting a contrasting narrative to the initial account of a road rage incident in Bengaluru involving an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer. While Wing Commander Aditya Bose had earlier alleged being attacked by a local resident, the newly surfaced video shows him also engaging in physical assault against the same individual, confirming a mutual confrontation.

The footage shows Wing Commander Aditya Bose and his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita, approaching a man wearing a neon green jacket. Contrary to Bose’s initial claims, the video appears to show the IAF officer initiating the physical altercation. His wife is also seen engaging in what appears to be verbal abuse directed at the man.

One segment of the CCTV footage shows Bose pushing the man onto the road and then proceeding to repeatedly kick and hit him. Several onlookers can be seen in the video attempting to intervene and stop Bose’s actions.

Earlier in the day, two separate videos posted on social media by Wing Commander Aditya Bose painted a different picture. In those videos, a visibly injured Bose accused a local resident of attacking him and his wife while they were en route to catch an airport bus. Bose stated that a biker intercepted their car and began verbally abusing them in Kannada.

Police statement

D Devaraj, DCP East Bengaluru, says, “… This is not a case related to any language or region. This is very clear from the facts and evidence collected from the morning. It is a clear-cut case of road rage, which is very common in Bengaluru. Both of them could have avoided this.”

He added, “When this altercation was taking place, 6-7 youngsters tried to separate the two people and stop the fight. They tried their level best to pacify both of them… When the lady officer, Madhumita Das, was driving, this guy was coming from the opposite direction… This was the root cause… Then the officer got out of the car, and both of them had a fight. One guy, Vikas Kumar, has been arrested…”

Initial accounts of fight

According to Bose’s initial account, the situation escalated when the biker noticed a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sticker on their vehicle, allegedly leading to further verbal abuse directed at his wife. When Bose exited the car, he claimed the biker struck him on the forehead with a key, causing him to bleed. He further alleged that others joined in the assault, with one person reportedly hitting him with a stone.

In his earlier video, Bose recounted, “A bike came from behind and stopped our car. The guy started abusing me in Kannada. When they saw the DRDO sticker, they said ‘You DRDO people’ and abused my wife. The moment I got out, the biker hit me with a key on my forehead, and there was blood.”

Due to his need to travel to Kolkata, Bose did not initially file a complaint. However, his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita, later lodged a complaint at the Baiyappanahalli Police Station. Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered, and an arrest was made.

In her complaint, Madhumita alleged that the biker was riding rashly, banged on their car with his leg and a stone, and made threatening remarks, stating, “You’re from the DRDO, I can see the sticker. This is Kannada land; just watch what I do.”

However, the emergence of the CCTV footage showing Bose as the alleged initiator of the physical confrontation has significantly altered the narrative of the incident. The footage shows Bose grappling with the man in the neon green jacket while passersby attempt to separate them. Another angle captures Bose appearing to have a chokehold on the man.

A woman in a blue t-shirt, believed to be Bose’s wife Madhumita, is also seen trying to intervene during the physical altercation. Further footage shows Bose dragging the fight onto the road and continuing to assault the man. The woman in the blue t-shirt is then seen running back to the man and verbally confronting him with pointed fingers, after which Bose returns to support her and allegedly further attack the man.
