Aarav Hanoi, the 22-year-old accused of killing Assam vlogger Maya Gogoi, has been arrested by Bengaluru police outside Karnataka, according to ANI, citing DCP East.
Hanoi, originally from Kerala, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death at a service apartment in Indiranagar, Bengaluru. Disturbingly, he reportedly stayed with the victim’s body for an entire day before fleeing.
Authorities revealed that Hanoi and Gogoi had been in a relationship for six months. The couple checked into the service apartment and spent two days together before the crime occurred. CCTV footage captured Hanoi leaving the apartment in a panic around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
The police believe the murder was premeditated. Investigators found that Hanoi brought an old knife to the apartment and ordered a nylon string online shortly after their arrival. Following the murder, he fled to the Majestic railway station and switched off his phone to evade tracking.
Initially, police suspected he might have escaped to Kerala. Two special teams, led by Inspector Sudarshan from Indiranagar Police Station, were tasked with tracking him down.
Gogoi’s family shared that she had informed her sister about attending an office party. “On Sunday, she messaged again saying she had a party and wouldn’t be coming home,” her sister recalled.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem of Gogoi’s body has been completed, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
