A West Bengal government employee allegedly stabbed at least four colleagues after being denied leave, officials reported on Thursday. The accused, Amit Kumar Sarkar, was later seen walking around with the bloodstained knife, a chilling sight captured on camera.

Sarkar, who worked in the technical education department at Karigari Bhavan in Kolkata’s Newtown area, was filmed strolling in broad daylight with a knife in hand, a bag on his back, and another in his grip. Passersby recorded him on their mobile phones as he warned them to stay away.

“Amit Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, got into an argument with colleagues over leave this morning. Following the altercation, he attacked them with a knife before attempting to flee,” a senior police official said.

The injured victims—Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santanu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul—were rushed to a nearby hospital. Two of them are reported to be in critical condition.

Police believe Sarkar lost his temper after being refused leave. He has been arrested, and an investigation is underway. Officials also suspect he may have mental health issues.

“After the arrest, Sarkar said he had a cool head but his four colleagues joked about his father and thus he attacked them,” an FIR had been filed against Sarkar at the station,” a source revealed to The Indian Express.
