A special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Tuesday remanded eight accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique to police custody until December 7.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested 26 individuals, including the alleged shooter Shivkumar Gautam, in connection with Siddique’s killing on October 12.
Initially, all accused were sent to judicial custody by a magistrate court. However, on November 30, the police invoked MCOCA provisions against them, prompting their appearance before the special court on Tuesday.
The police sought remand for eight accused, including Gautam, to facilitate further investigation. The court granted their remand until December 7. The remaining accused were sent to 14-day judicial custody.
Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, and Shubham Lonkar are still at large.
Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East. The 66-year-old sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and later died at Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital.
