Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed concerns regarding the alleged misuse of legal actions to intimidate opposition leaders and parties, warning of a prevailing “atmosphere of fear” in the country. He was addressing reporters on the recent raids carried out by central agencies.

Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), voiced his concerns about what he claimed was a deliberate imposition of unfounded charges to suppress and pressurise members of the Opposition.

“We are seeing how false cases are being slapped in an attempt to subdue and threaten Opposition leaders, Opposition parties,” he said.

Kejriwal further alleged that individuals are being pressured into joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) through various tactics, thereby undermining the democratic process.

Kejriwal’s remarks came shortly after the arrest of senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering investigation linked to the 2021–22 Delhi excise policy case.

Kejriwal also claimed that the misuse of legal action extends beyond the realm of politics, affecting business leaders as well. “An atmosphere of fear that has been created in the country, not just in politics but also in business and trade and industry, this atmosphere of fear is not good for the country. A country cannot grow (like this). The country will not progress by playing this agency-agency game,” he said.
