The Delhi Traffic Police issued a traffic alert for commuters on March 22, due to planned protests by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday.

Delhi Police recommended that commuters steer clear of certain routes, such as IP Marg, Vikas Marg, Minto Road, and others.

The Delhi Traffic Police wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, “In view of the proposed protest by Political party at DDU Marg Delhi, Traffic will remain heavy at IP Marg, Vikas Marg, Minto Road and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.”

The police also said that DDU Marg will remain closed for traffic movement. “Kindly avoid these roads and plan your journey accordingly,” the police stated.

There was a significant surge on Friday morning in security measures as law enforcement deployed heavy personnel and erected multi-layered barricades along the roads leading to the BJP headquarters. This preemptive action was taken in anticipation of a protest planned by AAP leaders and workers against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

In addition to local police presence, paramilitary forces equipped with anti-riot gear were dispatched to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the vicinity. Authorities took the precaution of closing off access to the BJP headquarters and the ED office in central Delhi by shutting down surrounding roads.

Responding to the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leaders instructed the party members to assemble at the BJP headquarters and initiate a protest at 10 am on Friday.

Checks at the borders of Delhi have been heightened to prevent AAP supporters from entering the national capital from neighboring states.
