Apple has announced that it will be expanding the availability of its “Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair” software to users in 32 European countries, including the UK, France, and Germany.
Reportedly, in other countries only Apple Authorised Service Providers and select independent repair providers are authorised to use this software. With the expansion, ‘Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair’ is expected to support iPhone, Mac, and Studio Display models.
Apple to expand its repairing software access
According to Apple’s official blog with this expansion, Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair will now support iPhone, Mac, and Studio Display models in 33 countries and 24 languages.
Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair is a software tool that enables you to troubleshoot issues. The software was launched in the U.S. in December 2023, allows producers and users to test products for optimal parts functionality and performance. Additionally it also helps to identify which parts may need repair.
With Self Service Repair anyone with relevant experience repairing electronic devices can access to the manuals, genuine Apple parts, and tools used at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorised Service Providers. Self Service Repair can support 42 Apple products.
Now Self Service Repair is expected to include MacBook Air models powered by M3. According to Apple Newsroom, next year, Canada will become the 34th country in which Apple offers Self Service Repair.
How can you use third-components in repair?
In addition to the expansion of the software, Apple seems to have published a “whitepaper”. The paper is expected to explain the company’s principles for designing for longevity. Additionally, Apple also elaborates on how using third-party parts or repair service can affect user experience in the future.
The company also stated that starting later this year, “Apple will allow consumers to activate True Tone with third-party parts to the best performance that can be provided.” True Tone is a feature that adjusts the colour and intensity of the display to match ambient light. The True Tone feature currently does not work with third-party displays as “it requires precise calibration to function properly,” according to Apple Newsroom.
Furthermore, in an official blog Apple explained that in 2024 it will display battery health metrics such as maximum capacity and cycle count for devices that are powered by third-party batteries. However, the information could be presented with a notification stating that ‘Apple cannot verify the information presented.’
