The Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Pawan Kalyan-led Janasena alliance on Saturday announced the first list of 118 seats for forthcoming Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the list, TDP candidates will be contesting from 94 constituencies while Janasena will contest from 24 seats.

The two leaders, however, said the seat allocation had been done keeping in mind the need to accommodate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in case the saffron party decides to join the alliance.

Addressing a press conference at his Andhra Pradesh residence in Undavalli on the TDP-Janasena alliance, Naidu said, “This union is for the future of the state. This is the first step for a great effort.”

The allocation of seats for the remaining 57 out of the total 175 Assembly constituencies is expected to be announced shortly.

In September last year, actor-politician Pawan Kalyan had announced that Janasena Party and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will form an alliance and contest together in the Andhra Pradesh polls together.

Kalyan had made this announcement outside the Rajamahendravaram central prison after meeting TDP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who was arrested in connection with an alleged Rs 371 crore skill development corporation scam.

“Andhra Pradesh can’t afford YSRCP. I have made the decision today. Janasena and TDP will go together in the next elections,” Kalyan had told reporters, with Naidu’s son and party general secretary Nara Lokesh and Hindupur MLA and Naidu’s brother-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna, by his side.
