Indian Railways has implemented cutting-edge laundry technology to provide clean, hygienic, and high-quality bedrolls to passengers in air-airconditioned (AC) sleeper classes. This initiative will improve passenger comfort and maintain the highest standards of hygiene during train journeys.

Mechanized laundries make sure that linens are thoroughly washed after every use while blankets are cleaned at least once a month or more than once if required. The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma told ANI that an additional bedsheet is given in the bedroll kit for passengers’ convenience. The complete linen sets are also provided to the Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) passengers as compared to the confirmed passengers.

All about State-of-the Art Laundry facilities

A new laundry care center has been set up in Guwahati that has remarkably improved the linen management system, as the daily production capability of 16,000 bedroll packets. This tunnel-based system uses resources like power, water, and steam while ensuring a seamless automated process. This initiative is part of broader planning to build mechanized laundries across main locations in the Northeast Frontier Railway Zone.

How do these laundries work?

These laundries are equipped with advanced technology and utilizes branded chemicals, and standardized machines to preserve the quality of the linen. The consistency of cleaning standards is measured by the whiteness meters. There are also dedicated ‘’war rooms’’ at zonal and divisional levels to keep track of them and to address complaints on a quick basis through the Rail Madad portal.

Indian Railways also highlighted that they use eco-friendly packaging and efficient logistics for storing and transporting the bedrolls. The standard bed roll kit now includes lightweight easy to clean blankets with enhanced insulation properties

The organization strictly adheres that no dirty linen gets reused, reinforcing its commitment to providing safety and comfort for passengers. With these slew of innovative measures, Indian Railways continues to give preference to a superior travel experience for its passengers.
