Stressed on the need for making cold storage to keep the crops in self-sufficient India package and linking farmers directly to the market, Modi said that Rs 1 lakh crore investment has been announced for this. “The way to sell crops at higher prices will be opened when farmers will connect with the market,” he added. The government is also looking at setting up industries enabled by the local products in various districts and states to enable local employment and development. For instance, makhana in Bihar, amla and mango in Uttar Pradesh, chilli in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha and Jharkhand have forest produce. “There are many such local products in every district with which the associated industries are planned to be installed nearby,” Modi said.

The self-reliant India campaign started with the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. Within a few weeks, about 25 million rupees were spent on this scheme. In these three months, work has been done to provide ration-pulses to the plate of 80 crore poor people, said Modi. The government has also started Ek Desh Ek Ration Card Scheme so that workers do not have a problem of food grains from the government shop.
Modi said that the government is making every effort that labourers don't have to take loans during the Corona pandemic and don't have to spread hands in front of anyone. Modi said that the mapping of the skills of all workers has been started in the village itself. This will help them get work according to their skills.
